Hello!

Pls, can you tell me if i can mountaineer in the Pontic Mountains (Kaskar Dagi)? And if they can be reached easily from Samsun? And if Samsun itself can be reached by ferry-boat from Constanta?
I'm romanian, and know little about eastern Turkey, scarcely better than nothing. If you can help me with some info, tnx!

Of course you can climb or trek Kackar mountains. Unfortunately I don't know any regular tours for there, you should ask it to local mountaineering clubs. The mountain is near Rize (not Samsun). There aren't any ferries from Romania to Rize or Samsun, you have to fly to Istanbul and fly to Trabzon or take a bus to Rize.

Thanks a lot!

The good news is that Rize is a port, even eastward than Samsun. The bad news is that it has no air or rail link with any major city, only sea and road links. Difficult to get to Rize, but mountains are very close to it (i searched google earth).

So, the nearest big city is Trabzon. From there, by bus. Hm. Adventure! Like it.

Thank you again for the promptitude of your answer. I have no friends in Turkey now, so, if i am serious about trekking the Kackars, i am to find them on internet. I see there is a university there in Rize, this a good start, from my point of view.
